Cookies
Last updated: 30 May 2026
Memo uses strictly-necessary cookies to run the Service, plus optional analytics cookies that load only after you accept in the consent banner. We never use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The full list is below.
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|
| memo_guest_id | Random ID that identifies your anonymous guest session so you can revisit your own uploads on a shared album. | 1 year | Memo |
| memo_mod_session | Session token for moderators after they accept an invitation link. Lets them review uploads without re-clicking the invite. | 30 days | Memo |
| authjs.session-token authjs.csrf-token authjs.callback-url | Authentication cookies issued by Auth.js (NextAuth) when an Organizer signs in. Used to keep you signed in and to protect sign-in flows from CSRF. | Session / up to 30 days | Auth.js |
| _ga _ga_<id> | Google Analytics — measures how the site is used (pages, referrers, rough region) so we can improve it. Set only if you choose “Accept all” in the cookie banner; until then analytics runs without cookies or stays off. | Up to 2 years / 13 months |
Analytics & consent
We use Google Analytics with Google’s Consent Mode. On your first visit, analytics storage is denied by default — no _ga cookies are written. If you choose Accept all, we enable analytics cookies; if you choose Reject all, they stay off. Your choice is remembered in your browser’s local storage so we don’t ask again.
What we don’t use
- No advertising or retargeting cookies
- No ad-personalization or audience-remarketing signals
- No cross-site tracking or data brokers
- No browser fingerprinting beyond the anonymous
memo_guest_idcookie above
Managing cookies
You can clear cookies from your browser at any time. Clearing memo_guest_idmeans we’ll mint a new anonymous ID the next time you upload — past uploads stay in the album but you won’t be linked to them on the device any more. Clearing the Auth.js cookies signs you out and you’ll need to sign in again. To change your analytics choice, clear this site’s data (which removes the saved consent) and the banner will appear again on your next visit.
Local storage
For features like the live slideshow and the upload progress UI, we may keep small pieces of state in your browser’s localStorage or sessionStorage (for example, the last-selected slideshow theme). This data stays on your device and is never sent to our servers.
